Fashion from Zanzibar Part 2

What is the first thing you think when you hear the word Zanzibar? It is hardly "fashionable". There are not fashion boutiques in Zanzibar. But you can buy things that are not only exotic but also good to wear in our modern countries.

Here's a dress I got when I spent time on the beach in a Zanzibar. There are traders walking on the beach, selling different things. They carry their goods in their hands and walk. If you want to see something, you just stop the trader and he shows you what you want. I stopped a woman selling clothes. I looked at them. All of them were made from good fabrics, cotton with or without decorations. There is no origin label, but I do not need it. I can recognize the good by myself. The woman asks me if I like the color.

"If you want, I will bring you other colors," she says.

"Where?" - I asked.

"From there." She points out, a place about 1.5 km from us. I would not have sent her to walk 3km in the heat just to see if the other shades I would like. I bought the dress. The next day I witnessed such a case, that a client wanted to bring her more things (some trousers) and the woman brought them. She was moving with a 6 years old child. She had told me she was her daughter, called Natasha. She had nothing Russian, just the mother liked that name. This child, together with her mother, had to walk 3 km to the beach to satisfy the capricious client.

Someone had said that the client was always right. A phrase from the "winged nonsense" category! There is also something like humanity in this world. But this is another topic for reflection. Let's go back to the dress.

The dress is made of cotton knit, very soft and comfortable to wear.

Decoration of colorful crystals.

And that's me, dressed in this dress. The landscape is ours, Bulgarian.

There are other things from Zanzibar, but for them - in next publications.
